Web hosting is one of the many other terms you'll come across when building your website. You may have heard domain name, but that's different than web hosting. Your domain name is the address of your website, and it's often purchased for a fee so that nobody else can use it. 

Web hosting is where your website or domain resides. For example, if you have a blog based out of word press and your name is Mypetblog.wordpress.com. 

All websites will have a web host. Mypetblog is the name of your website, and WordPress.com is the web host. When you purchase your domain name under WordPress, your website will display Mypetblog.com while still using WordPress as your web host. 

While Domain names and web hosting are different, they work together to make a website. You don't have to purchase a domain name from the web host. You can buy your domain name from other companies. 

Think of web hosting as a business renting a spot in a mall or plaza. The name of the mall or plaza is the web host, and the domain name is the name of the store or business. 

In some cases, it's better to purchase your domain name from a separate company, as switching web hosts is much more manageable, especially if you want to move web hosting companies down the road. However, if you use the same web host for your domain name. It makes it much easier to renew your annual domain name fee easier. 

The type of web host you require depends on your website needs. If you're using it as an e-portfolio or blog, hosts like Wix or WordPress are best for you. For e-commerce, places like Shopify may suit your needs better. However, you can still use both WordPress and Wix for online websites.
